The project for the development of Gaia DPCT, the Italian data processing center of the mission Gaia, is made by the scientific team of the Astronomical Observatory of Turin in collaboration with ALTEC, and is funded by the Italian Space.
In the context of this important project, Eurix was chosen for highly specialized software development  for the Italian Data Processing (DPCT) of the mission in order to allow the execution of the software developed by the scientific staff of the Astronomical Observatory of Turin.
Gaia is a mission of the ESA scientific program that aims to obtain a three-dimensional map of our galaxy, revealing the composition, formation and evolution.
The launch of the satellite was made in December 19, 2013 with the Soyuz-Fregat vector in the orbit around L2. Gaia is made directly from ESA, also for the part of scientific instrumentation which consists of two telescopes with different fields of view and a common focal plane, a series of mirrors and more than a hundred CCD that correspond to nearly a billion pixels. Gaia will scan continuously the whole sky by exploiting the motions of rotation and precession of the satellite: each area of the sky is observed in about seventy times during the operational life of the satellite.
The participation of the European scientific community to the mission includes the responsibility for the reduction of the enormous amount of data that will be produced by the mission. This task will be carried out by the Data Processing and Analysis Consortium (DPAC).
